At 5:45 every evening, the Spanish Bay bagpiper still plays at the fire pits, until 6:30. The fairways behind the fire pits have been a construction site since March 18, 2026, when Pebble Beach Company and Gil Hanse began a full rebuild of The Links at Spanish Bay on a 13-month schedule. The bagpiper's schedule hasn't changed.
That pattern holds across the north end of 17-Mile Drive this year. The renovation took away the golf and one casual restaurant. It left the coast, the evening music and most of the Inn's dining in place. And the finished plans add to those parts: more habitat on the course, and new fire pits at the clubhouse.
What Went Dark, and When It Comes Back
Two things have closed. The dates come from Pebble Beach Company and from Monterey County NOW's spring coverage of the project.
| Item | Status | Date |
|---|---|---|
| The Links at Spanish Bay | Construction began | March 18, 2026 |
| STICKS | Closed for renovation | Early April 2026 |
| STICKS | Expected reopening | March 2027 |
| The Links at Spanish Bay | Scheduled public reopening | April 17, 2027 |
The STICKS page on the resort's site still reads "Temporarily Closed." Neither that page nor any other public source says whether a pop-up or temporary venue has taken its place. Assume there isn't one until the resort says so.
Treat both reopening dates as targets. Monterey County NOW pointed out that construction timelines are "notoriously iffy," and also noted that Pebble Beach Company kept several projects on schedule during last year's renovation of The Lodge.
The Evening Calendar Didn't Move
The Inn's weekly music schedule runs on its own clock, and nothing on the current calendar shows any change from the construction:
- The Spanish Bay Bagpiper, every evening, 5:45 to 6:30 p.m., at the fire pits
- Live jazz by the fireplace at The Inn at Spanish Bay, Thursday through Saturday, 7 to 10 p.m.
- Patio Blues, every Saturday, 2 to 5 p.m., with drinks and bites
Put together, a Saturday has music at the Inn from mid-afternoon to 10 p.m., with only a break for dinner. A Saturday last year would have looked about the same. The only thing missing is a round on the course before it.
Dinner Without STICKS
STICKS was the course-side option. Three other venues at the Inn are still listed as open, each at a different level of formality.
Pèppoli serves lunch from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and dinner from 5:30 to 10 p.m., and takes reservations online.
Roy's at Pebble Beach runs the longest day at the Inn. It serves breakfast from 6:30 to 11 a.m., lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., a light-fare window from 3 to 4 p.m., and dinner from 5 to 10 p.m. For a casual lunch after a walk, Roy's comes closest to what STICKS used to offer.
The Lobby Lounge is listed from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Its menu has grab-and-go items in the morning and bar bites from noon on. The Thursday-through-Saturday jazz plays by its fireplace.
Stave Wine Cellar is listed as a wine lounge with small bites, open 2 to 9 p.m. That page looks old, so call ahead before you plan a visit around those hours.
The Inn's October calendar also has two one-night events. Pebble Beach Food & Wine brings back Whiskey & Fire at The Inn at Spanish Bay on Friday, October 30, from 6 to 9 p.m. It's an open-air, walk-around tasting with whiskey pours and dishes cooked over open flames, produced by the teams behind Heritage Fire and the Whiskies of the World series. Tickets are $250 per person, tax and service fees included. Earlier in the month, on October 15, Pèppoli hosts "A Table With the Next Generation," a dinner with three guests from Paul Hobbs.
The Boardwalk Came Back First
The shoreline reopened before the renovation started. Storms had damaged the Spanish Bay coastal boardwalk, and at an August 6, 2025 meeting the Pebble Beach Company Community Advisory Board heard that it would reopen on September 8. By the board's December 10, 2025 meeting, the minutes recorded the project as "complete and reopened." The same minutes said an interpretive signage program for the coastal trail was being prepared for the Coastal Commission and Monterey County, with submission planned for spring 2026. No public source yet says whether that signage has been approved.
The resort's 17-Mile Drive page still lists the shoreline boardwalk as a stop, and the gates are open to the public from sunrise to sunset. The resort's beach guide describes two ways to reach Spanish Bay Beach. You can walk the boardwalk from the Inn's patio, or you can park in a lot behind the course's 8th tee. That guide was published in July 2020. No 2026 source says whether the 8th-tee lot is affected by the course work, so the route from the Inn patio is the one that's documented while construction continues.
Keep Walking Into Pacific Grove
The boardwalk doesn't stop at the forest line. North of the Inn it leads into Asilomar State Beach, where California State Parks has something new.
On July 15, 2026, State Parks and Aramark Destinations cut the ribbon on a Historic Preservation Center at Asilomar State Beach and Conference Grounds. It's a central workshop for restoring the craftsmanship and architectural details of the National Historic Landmark. The project cost about $150,000 and took roughly two months to build.
The park's upcoming events this week fit a weekend walk:
- October 9: Asilomar Origins & History Tour
- October 9: Wildflower Walk
- October 10: Asilomar Origins & History Tour
The Asilomar Coast Trail starts just north of the main beach. It's a three-quarter-mile accessible trail with 27 entry points along Sunset Boulevard, and a beach wheelchair is available on request at the registration desk in the Phoebe Hearst Social Hall. Dogs must stay on leash, and alcohol and bonfires aren't allowed on the state beach. The nearest public restroom is in the Social Hall, across the street from the main beach. The Asilomar side has none of the Inn's fire pits, and the Spanish Bay side has no state-park restroom, so it helps to know which side of the line you're on.
What the Rebuild Adds
The construction fences are temporary. The finished plans add more of the things that kept running through the closure.
In its February 2026 announcement, Pebble Beach Company said the redesigned course will have wider fairways and greens, revised holes, and new drainage and irrigation systems. It will also use 12% less irrigated turf and add three acres of habitat. In practice, that means more native ground between the Inn and the water, and less of it under sprinklers.
The clubhouse plans add fire pits. On February 4, 2026, a Monterey County administrative permit agenda listed proposed changes to the Spanish Bay clubhouse at 2700 17 Mile Drive:
a 3,884 square foot partial level addition including 4 golf simulators, a lounge, storage, and food prep areas, 1,238 square foot additions to the existing gallery/entry, 720 square foot additions to the existing weight room, 1,020 square foot additions to the existing terrace with new fire pits
That agenda describes what was proposed. It doesn't confirm a final design.
STICKS is coming back as a gastropub with a new menu. Monterey County NOW reported a golf simulator lounge of about 4,000 square feet upstairs, with at least four "swing suites" running Golfzon TwoVisionNX simulators. The county agenda gives the addition as 3,884 square feet, so the 4,000 figure is a rounded number.
Bringing Guests Through the Gate
Visitors coming in for Whiskey & Fire or a Pèppoli dinner will hit the 17-Mile Drive gate fee. Pebble Beach Company currently posts it at $12.50 per vehicle. The fee is refunded with a purchase of $35 or more at a resort restaurant, except Pebble Beach Market, and the public gates are open sunrise to sunset. For an evening at the Inn, a guest arriving before sunset for the 5:45 bagpiper and staying for dinner at Roy's or Pèppoli gets the gate fee back with the meal.
The same month brings one more option nearby. On October 17, Hay's Place at The Lodge celebrates its fifth anniversary with a ticketed walk-around culinary event. That puts three food events and the Asilomar tours inside one October, with the golf course still closed.
If you're thinking about what the renovated Spanish Bay could mean for your own corner of the Del Monte Forest once the Links and STICKS reopen in spring 2027, the Bambace Peterson Team is following the project closely and would be glad to talk it through. Contact us.
